The process a cattery follows when selling a kitten to a future owner is often carefully designed to ensure the kittens find a safe and loving home.
Here is our step-by-step procedure:
Interest and Initial Contact Future kitten buyers typically contact the cattery via the website, social media, or word of mouth. The cattery provides basic information about the breed, the temperament of the kittens, and expected availability.
Questionnaire or Intake Interview We ask interested buyers to complete a questionnaire. This helps us determine if their home is a good fit for a Ragdoll and whether the buyers are familiar with the breed's needs.
Selection and Proposal of Available Kittens If the cattery is positive about the potential buyer, they will receive information about available kittens. This can include photos, descriptions of the kittens' personalities, and sometimes details about the parents. The cattery assists the buyer in choosing a kitten whose personality and needs match their situation. If no kittens are available, the buyer is placed on the waiting list.
Visit to Our Cattery We invite the potential owner to visit and meet the kitten (or kittens) in person. This is an opportunity to see where the kitten was raised and gives the buyer the chance to ask questions and get to know the cattery. During the visit, the cattery also discusses care instructions and expectations regarding the kitten's care.
Agreement and Deposit Once both parties agree, a purchase contract is drawn up. This contract includes details about health guarantees, spaying/neutering agreements, and any breeding conditions (if the kitten is suitable for breeding). The kitten remains with the cattery until it is old enough to move to its new home, which is usually at 16 weeks of age.
Vaccinations, Health Checks, and Microchip We ensure the kitten receives necessary vaccinations, health checks, and a microchip before it moves to its new home. This may include multiple vaccinations, a health certificate from the vet, and sometimes a DNA test. A final check-up by the vet often takes place right before the kitten leaves, ensuring it is healthy when handed over.
Pick-up Appointment and Care Instructions Once the kitten is old enough and has completed all health checks, the buyer and cattery agree on a pick-up date. At the time of pick-up, the buyer will receive detailed instructions about feeding, care, and the kitten's personality. We also provide a starter pack with food, toys, and a blanket scented with the cattery's smell to help ease the transition.
Aftercare and Ongoing Contact Our cattery offers aftercare and remains available for any questions, especially in the first weeks after the kitten has settled into its new home. We appreciate being kept updated on the kitten's development and health, and we are also interested in receiving long-term wellbeing updates.
